Toxin Free Hair Styling Products

IMG_2267Similar to other mainstream personal care products, traditional hair styling products usually contain harmful toxins.

This info is from the Guide to Less Toxic Products:  Hair sprays, styling gels and mousses keep the hair in place by coating it with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), a plastic polymer, and using solvents to dissolve it in solution and keep the film flexible on the hair. PVP is classified by Environment Canada as a medium health priority. Phthalates, which can affect reproduction, may be used as solvents in sprays but are not listed as ingredients. Other hazardous ingredients in hair styling products include TEA, and potentially toxic FD&C colours. Ethoxylated alcohols and PEG compounds, also common in hair styling products may be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, a probable carcinogen. Parabens, which can disrupt the endocrine system, are used as preservatives in hair sprays, and DMDM hydantoin, a formaldehyde releasing chemical, is a popular preservative in other styling products such as mousses. Fragrance, which is a mixture of many unknown toxins, is added to most conventional hair styling products.  For more details, check out 10 Ingredients to Avoid Putting on Your Hair!

IMG_2250While I had already replaced most of my personal care products like makeup, shampoo, skin care, shaving cream, and deodorant with natural versions, I had stopped using any kind of hair styling products.  I recently got a great new hairstyle (thank you Kate Barnes) and wanted some “product” to make the most of it.  After some internet searching, I found Intelligent Nutrients where “Everything we put in and on our bodies must be nutritious and safe”.  Not only are the products safe, but they work!

I love that you don’t have to compromise health to get products that perform.

I am grateful each day for wellness, happiness and the opportunity to share with you.
