Immunity Smoothie

IMG_1578Before Paleo, I had a smoothie almost every morning for breakfast.  Since Paleo, I’ve preferred a protein centric pastured egg breakfast with veggies and meat which carries me longer through the morning and is more waistline friendly.  Every once in a while though I have a hankering for the fruity, luxurious taste of a smoothie.

Fortunately I’ve found a few recipes that provide benefits to make a smoothie more than just an indulgence like the Superfood Smoothie and the Immunity Smoothie.  Our immune systems can always use a little boost, especially when spring sometimes brings colds and the flu along with the promise of nicer weather.

Elderberry syrup stimulates the body’s immune system, helping to prevent colds and flu and reducing the duration of flu.  Gelatin is good for digestion and healing the gut, protects your joints and improves your skin.  You can use grass fed whole protein gelatin to make delicious desserts or add grass fed hydrolyzed gelatin to smoothies for collagen and protein.  Check out more paleo gelatin recipes here.

Immunity Smoothie

  • 1 banana, ripe with spots (yellow banana with lots of brown spots ensures conversion of starch into simple sugars)
  • 2 tablespoons elderberry syrup
  • 1 cup frozen organic berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or mixed)
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon grassfed hydrolyzed gelatin

Blend all ingredients.  It’s that simple!

I am grateful each day for wellness, happiness and the opportunity to share with you.
