Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms!

I just found out that today is the 100th official Mother’s Day.  In that first Mother’s Day proclamation, issued on May 9, 1914, President Wilson said the holiday gives Americans the chance to express “our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.”

Something fun to share:  100 Inspiring Quotes About Mothers.

I am deeply grateful to have a loving relationship with my mom and to have loving relationships with my children.  Like all relationships these take thought and attention and can ebb and flow over time.  There are plenty of books and articles (and therapists) that can help you improve your relationship with your mom or your children, but I think a few simple ideas are pretty meaningful.

  • You can only change yourself.
  • The happier you are the happier your relationships will be.
  • Practice the Golden Rule – treat others as you would like to be treated (even when others don’t).
  • As Mahatma Gandhi said “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”

Have a wonderful day!
